Make Way for Aunt D!
Sadly, I don't have pics to accompany this entry. The camera waited longingly in the car for me to use it, but, alas, it remained alone in it's dark case during all the fun.
For Fall Break this year we decided to take a short drive up to Southern Illinois to visit our Aunt Dee. She is the closest, distant family we have, and her home has always been a wonderful place to visit for us. However, this time Shawn wasn't quite as sure of it as the rest of us, due to the whisperings of costumes and acting and filming.
See, Aunt Dee works for a Christian Television Broadcasting Network, 3ABN. We have been able to see bits and pieces here and there from time to time on our visits. But this visit, we were invited to tag along on a studio filming for some Bible Stories. FUN!!!!!
What started off as us being extras in the background quickly changed to myself and the kids dressing up and sitting in the front of everyone else pretending to be patrons in the marketplace in Babylon, buying carpets and eavesdropping on conversations of the goings on in the palace. While Shawn, my unsocial, "leave-me-alone", wonderful husband got to play the part of a Babylonian guard who escorted Aunt Dee (the King's Sister... can't remember her name... I think Lady Azada... sorry, Dee) into the marketplace and called out to all, "Make Way!!! Make Way for Lady Azada!!" and carried his spear forward to await her while she (Aunt Dee) spoke to her servant girl. For a five-minute scene, we were there for a couple hours (I think). They had pretzels, apples, peanuts and rolls in the marketplace for the children to "buy" and they snacked on them throughout the scene.
It was a fun... tiring, yet fun.... morning at one of the studios. We got to meet a lot of sweet friends and co-workers of Dee's. And afterwards they even had a yummy Vegan lunch for us. I have never had black beans with green olives in it before... but it was an interesting flavor!!
We enjoyed spending a few days with Dee. Unfortunately our 4 days was cut to three because Dee came down with a cold and needed some rest, as she had not been sick for over a year prior to that. So, Saturday we awoke, made breakfast, packed our things, made eggplant meatball sandwiches (left leftovers for her to have for dinner), had an early lunch and headed out the door and down the road back home.
It was raining almost the whole time we were there. But we were still able to kick back and enjoy the time with each other. I can't wait til next time!!! Until then.... Thanks, Dee!! We love you!!!
