East Coast Family (Part 3-a)~ Air & Space Museum

While Hilary, myself and the girls were out and about having a girls day out, Shawn, Uncle Mike and Zach decided to head to the newer extension hangar of the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum. They spent as much time there as we did out at all of our errands combined! (You may recognize this hangar from the second Transformer movie where the Blackbird... featured in these pics... exposed himself as one of the older Decepticons who decided that the Decepticon way was no longer his way and ended up being a good guy.)
During their time there they saw a few hundred airplanes, some Space exploration vehicles and other fun stuff.... do you recognize the infamous red and blue Optimus Prime there with Zach??? Among the airplanes portrayed here you can see an F-14 which is featured in Top Gun; some OLD airplanes from back in the day when they didn't believe the Wright Brothers that they could get that thing to fly; and even a mock-up of the mars Rover.

Zach especially enjoyed the R2-D2 mailbox on display, which the Post Office used when the release of Star Wars Episode I was taking place. The Ray guns were pretty cool, too. Don't miss the Enterprise Orbiter while you are there.... the Space Shuttle will be even more of an antique soon!!!

Shawn's favorite airplane of them all, the P-38 was was there for him to drool over. As was a flying car, the Concord, the F-4U Corsair and the Enola Gay... the plane used to drop the Atom Bomb on Hiroshima in WWII.
All-in-all the guys had a great time!!! And, besides the younger two complaining a bit about the lunch that Aunt Hilary and myself thought to be extremely yummy, the girls day out wasn't too bad either.
