Vasovagal Episode

noun
A paroxysmal condition marked by slow pulse, a fall in blood pressure, and sometimes by convulsions, thought to be the result of sudden stimulation of the vagus nerve mediated through receptors located in the carotid sinus, the aortic arch, or the heart. Also called vasovagal attack, vasovagal syncope.

Some of you may remember the eventful time we had a couple December's ago, when Ranoah decided that she would start having a seizure in the middle of her Kindergarten class and pass out. All due to a mild stomach cramp.

Well following that little mishap we were able to take her in to get several tests done. The results??

Vasovagal Syncope

She use to get white as a sheep just at the word "Band aid". She passed out when we had to take slivers out of her hands. Throughout it all, we have learned that, with this child anyways, the first step is not evaluating what is wrong. No, by that time she may be out like a light. Step 1~ calm the poor child down. Sit her down low to the ground, and tell her to breath.

Then you can move on to evaluating the situation. Really, this is good for all you locals and family alike to know in case you are ever in her presence during a hangnail. If you want to avoid white face, pale lips, rolling eyes, minor convulsions... You get the idea!!

Patient survived! Diagnoses?? Scraped toes, no blood, due to patient wearing flip flops while riding bike and proceeding to use feet as brakes instead of on the pedals. Lesson? Wear your tennis shoes!!! Another incident avoided. Another happy evening!!!

I have one of those in my family too. It makes life a little more interesting. Glad she is alright. It sounds painful to stop a bike with your toes! Yikes.

WoW! I knew the term (vaguely), but didn't know it went with a child who stopps breathing and passes out. (I've heard of those kids also...).

WoW! Glad she survived the scraped toes! I have told the girls for years to wear SHOES (real shoes) when they ride bikes!

Silly girl, stopping her bike with her bare piggy toes!~!!! OUCH!

Why oh why do they always want to wear flip flops while on bikes? Glad there was no passing out! Way to be brave, Ranoah!
