East Coast Family (Part 7)~ Lexington & Concord

Day 2 in Boston. Cedric and Aunt Meghann had a play date that they had to keep, so the rest of us went to Lexington. At the Visitor's Center we watched a portrayal of the night of the Shot heard Round the World. It was interesting at the time we went, because an entire field trip of special needs students were there as well. We had front row seats to two interpreters signing the entire dialogue of the documentary. Which was not in video format... it was a mannequin in spotlight narrative kind of thing. It was pretty neat.

After the show we left for what was supposed to be a 1-mile walk to see a demonstration of a musket firing. Prior to, we had to purchase those handy $2 ponchos in the gift shop because it was raining.

It was more than 1 mile. Not that I am complaining. But the kids were. And that was kind of exhausting... the tired kids, not the walk.

BUT, we arrived! And just in time!! It was a fun demonstration!!

While the dads walked back to get the car to meet us at the closer parking lot, the kids played outside the cottage.

Once in the car we drove on to Old North Bridge. It is a reconstructed bridge in the same place the old bridge was. But was still a great place as well.

Old North Bridge was a fun stop. The kids enjoyed the water, the bridge and even the snake! While Dad enjoyed the bridge, it's historical significance and the statues represented there.

Shawn became annoyed with the way I was holding the camera down next to the ground without even looking through it. I have become infatuated with creative angles. The perspective is changed and heightened in most cases when I play around with it. (I just have to laugh at my family's expressions in this because of that though!! "Mom. Why are you taking pictures like that??")

The Shot Heard Round the World!!

The Minute Men, called to action at any time.

One thing that amazed us was the amount of monuments people erected not long after the battles of the Revolutionary War were fought. Due to finances (or lack thereof) however, most were in the form of obilesques. There are MANY of these around New England!!

Shawn got out at the last stop to take pictures and tour the block full of statues and monuments. The kids were tired and hungry, and we were short on time. So, we stayed in the car eating car-snacks, while Shawn took a stroll.

I would not like to have been the wife in the doorway to this house in 1775.

The first battles between the British and Patriots have been brought to new light from these stops. I am incredibly grateful for the men who fought for our freedoms which we still enjoy today!
